Despite being home to the beautiful La Fiorita festival, one man still believes the authorities could do more to fix street problems in his part of Italy. Platforms existed in Venice and across other regions of Italy, so a precedent was set.
The La Marche region will get its very own FixMyStreet platform, fatequalcosa.it, which translates as Do Something! Claudio Carletti has shared his experience of using the mySociety code and his plans for the site.

The region of Campania in Southern Italy has approved its first regional bill on Open Data. The bill, approved on 28th of August, will ensure access, availability and reuse of datasets owned by the Campania public sector.
A portal with datasets will be made available to the public. The local authorities hope that opening up datasets will improve communication between Public Administration, Local Authorities and communities. The bill has also been described as ‘a real revolution in the relationship between citizens and government in the region’.

The Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) wants to be able to share more non-identifying information, including general and aggregate data as well as anonymised data sets. HMRC also seeks views on proposals to share VAT registration data, either publicly or under controlled conditions for specified purposes, for example, credit rating.
According with HMRC: “The UK helped secure the G8’s Open Data Charter, which presumes that the data held by Governments will be publicly available unless there is good reason to withhold it. It is important that HMRC plays a full part. HMRC’s relationship with businesses and individuals is unique, and this is reflected in the scope and depth of the information HMRC collects, creates and protects on behalf of taxpayers.”

The two day event, held between 7-8 of Novemeber, 2013, invites participants who have a basic knowledge or previous experience of using data for policy-relevant research and evidence-informed advocacy.
The first day will explore themes such as strategy and management, learning and evaluation, lifecycles of data products and will also look at the lessons learned from innovative projects. There will be perspectives from Policy Markers, Think Tankers, Business representatives and Data Journalists. The second day includes workshops and individual consultation time.

Think Tank Fund and Open Society Fund are organising an interactive workshop on Policy Research, Technology and Advocacy in Prague.

Tim Scanlan from The Human Brain Project will also be a guest speaker at the event. He will be introducing his project, an EU Flagship initiative in which over 80 partners work together to realise a new “ICT-accelerated” vision for brain research.

Wikimedia Italy, the National Library of Florence and the Italian Library Association are coming together to host the event, which aims to create useful connections between Wikipedians, librarians and data hackers.

A hackathon event about books, libraries and Wikipedia, or ‘Bibliohackerthon’, will be held in Florence, Italy on 26th October, 2013.

The Commission is asking for help in drawing up guidance and practical advice for boosting the re-use of weather data, traffic data, publicly funded research data, statistics, digitised books, and other types of public sector information (PSI).
Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes said: “The open data revolution is all about individuals and entrepreneurs and that includes the giving them a role in policy design.”
